This map shows the predominant income range of households in the United States. This is shown by census tract and county point centroids. The data is from the 2016 5-year American Community Survey. The map represents income in four categories:
- Under $25,000
- $25,000 - $50,000
- $50,000 - $100,000
- $100,000 or more
A newer version of this map can be found
here. The updated version contains data that is updated annually, so it always contains the most current data from the U.S. Census Bureau. It contains states, counties, and tract level data for centroids and boundaries.
The symbols in this map are colored by which category has the most households within a particular census tract (predominance). The size of the symbols represents the count of households within each tract. The pop-up is configured to tell you the following information:
- The predominant income range
- A chart which breaks down the count of households within each of the four categories
The data shown is Household Income in the past 12 months (in 2016 inflation-adjusted dollars). These are the American Community Survey (ACS) 2016 5-year estimates: Table B19001. Data was downloaded from
American Fact Finder in December 2017.
